Puzzle of Autism Struggle

Being social isn’t easy

What can come is criticism

It’s still harder for many

For those of us with autism

Making a conversation is hard

Can get on a topic with curiosity

Some still give us a hard time

Shoot us insults with animosity

We may say or ask stuff we shouldn’t

Depends on how curious we may get

Feels like our brains tell us to do so

Still with us people get upset

There’s also so much we can handle

It’s like being in a brand-new town

When it comes to too much of a sound

Can cause a total meltdown

Some just don’t seem to understand

That our brains just work different

People still yell at and scold us

Even if harm is not what we meant

We are more than just labels

Still human just like you

Don’t hesitate to reach out

Help us make it through

Autism is just part of us

We’ll have it till the end

No need to be afraid

Don’t be an enemy, be a friend

Humility for Disability

We are not all born the same

How boring the world would be

Being different is the best thing

Makes us a lot more free.

There are some that are very different

Disabilities here and there

They are still human beings

Treat them equally and fair.

Everyone is affected differently

Can be mild to severe

Still don’t hesitate to say hi

No need to live in fear.

Don’t refuse to get to know someone

We shouldn’t have set view

Regardless of their diagnosis

They’re still just like you.

We should have the hearts

To come together like sister and brother

Our feelings are all the same

Love and support each other.

Decree of Difference

Being different is one of the best things

Who cares about trying to fit in?

Still we’re judged way more than that

Not just by the color of our skin

Some expect you to like certain stuff

Like a show, song or movie

If you’re always doing what asked

You’ll never really be free

Ask yourself a question

Do you actually enjoy what you’re trying?

Even though its fun to go with someone

If you say yes, you could be lying

Have they ever done something you like?

Sometimes you say no or don’t really know

Being different is not a bad thing

It’s what makes the world really flow

You shouldn’t have to like certain stuff

Because people say you’re supposed to

Enjoy whatever makes you happy

Just keep on trying to be you

You’ll sometimes endure snide remarks
Can make your heart sometimes sink
Still just be yourself
Don’t worry about what others think

The world would be so boring

If everyone was the same

Keep on embracing the differences

They shouldn’t deserve any blame

Blue Ridge Blues

This is about a place called Blue Ridge Leaders School, where I went with the Leader’s Club at the YMCA. It was the best week of my life

Blue Ridge is a beautiful place

So much to see and do

If it’s your first time going

It’ll be quite the experience for you

I remember mine like it was yesterday

It was back in 2010

Miss the the fun and friends I made

Really wanna go back again

There were roadblocks that showed up though

Summer classes, work and money

Didn’t mean I couldn’t be involved in the club

Came whether it was rainy or sunny

I thought about it from time to time

Even watched the live streams and devotions

I imagine myself really there

Still runs through me are emotions

As time went on, it got hard

Even at the end of my college rope

Still tried everything to be positive

Never really lost the hope

Even if the mountain still stands

Will I ever go back again?

Right now the answer is “Someday”

I’ll keep living my life until then

No End with your Best Friend

They are your loyal companion

The bond is at perfection

When you met can vary

There still was a connection

There will be times when you’re down

Anger or tears glisten

They’ll be there for you to talk to

Being there to listen

Really special they are

Something you shouldn’t deny

Keep them really close

Friendship money can’t buy

Never take them for granted

You never know when comes to an end

Always cherish your time together

Stay close to your best friend
